You can apply to become a peer health intern by taking one of the prerequisite training classes. There are three classes: each is specific to a health topic. (ED191A - Sex and Relationships, ED191B -Alcohol and Drugs, ED191C - Healthy Eating and Living). At the end of the class, you can apply to become a peer health educator for the topic in which you were trained. The internship can be taken for 3 upper division academic units or as a volunteer. Volunteers still need to have taken the prerequisite class and complete the expected workload. Applications are always due the quarter prior by noon of the last day of instruction.
About the peer health interns:
Peer health interns are students who are dedicated to making a difference on the UCSB campus. They enjoy listening to their peers and have discussions about important health issues facing college students. They put on a variety of awareness activities on campus and give presentations to residence halls, Greek organizations, and other campus groups. They also like to have fun while working to make UCSB a better, healthier place.
Peer interns are trained in specific areas of health, and then bring this information to the campus community in order to enrich the UCSB experience for all students. The peer education program includes 3 programs: HEAL, S&R, STAR. Each group focuses on a specific health topic: sexual health, body image, exercise, and nutrition, and alcohol and drug use. All peer educators are also knowledgeable about a variety of health resources available to UCSB students on and around campus.

I'd like the UCSB peer health educators to present to my group/residence hall. How do I request a program to be scheduled?
If you're considering scheduling a program, follow these three simple steps:
1) Pick a topic - Talk to your residents/members, talk to the Health Education staff, and consult with other RAs in order to decide on a topic that's of interest to everyone. Attendance will depend on it.
2) Pick a time - Figure out two or three dates and times that would work for you and your hall/organization.
3) Request a program - Fill out the
online program request form
at least 2 weeks before you want the program, or contact any member of the Health Education staff to arrange a program directly.
Note: Do not wait until the end of the quarter to contact us for a program. Program requests made late in the quarter may be scheduled for the following quarter.
Once you have requested a program, a peer health educator will get in touch with you to finalize a time for your presentation. Then you can arrange all the logistics and discuss exactly what you want to be covered in your program with the presenter. Just prior to the program, the presenters will contact you to confirm all details related to the program.
Note: If a conflict arises that may impact attendance please call and reschedule don't hope for the best.
