Interested in joining one of our peer education internships?



The UCSB peer health education program recruits students who are interested in participating in one of the following groups:

HEAL (Healthy Eating & Living)
STAR (Students Teaching Alcohol & Other Drug Responsibility)
S&R (Sex and Relationships)
Wellness (encouraging all students to flourish through positive engagement  

To get involved:

  1. Take one of our Health Ed Classes which are offered through the Education Department. Each is specific to a health topic. (ED191A - Sex and Relationships, ED191B-Alcohol and Drugs, ED191C - Health Eating and Living), ED191D - Wellness. In the class you will learn how to be an effective intern and the basics of healthy eating and living, sexual health and relationships, alcohol and drugs or optimizing Wellness. Applications for the training class are accepted on the first day of class.

  2. At the end of training class, you can apply for the peer education group that you were trained in (HEAL, S&R, STAR, Wellness). Applications are due by noon of the last day of instruction. Put completed applications in your advisors Health Ed mailbox.

HAWC (Health and Wellness Chair)
This is an elected position. Each fall as a part of the Residence Hall Association elections students run for and are elected to become a HAWC. They serve as a bridge between Residence Life and Health Education. There is one HAWC in each Residence Hall and they serve from fall through the end of the school year.
